Let's bring people back into the center of care.
What We Do?
We host virtual global design sprints to reimagine healthcare with empathy for patients and providers. Participants include healthcare professionals, designers, and everyone in between.
How It Works?
Our participants diverge upon a prompt, such as mental health during COVID-19, seeking to understand the user's need, then converge upon a low-fidelity, human-centered solution to prototype.
Why Participate?
Design thinking teaches us that radical disruptions in healthcare require innovative solutions. Alongside existing quality improvement initiatives, design thinking provides healthcare professionals with a human-centered balance to increase the efficacy of systems improvement implementations.
Our movement is unique because we believe:
1. Human-centered design extends beyond patients to include providers,
2. Quality improvement (QI) is only half of the solution, and
3. Design thinking can fill important blind spots in modern healthcare quality improvement initiatives.

What Our Participants Say
"I feel inspired."
I really enjoyed participating in the design sprint! I feel inspired to start incorporating design thinking into other projects I have going on.

"The Design Sprint was awesome!"
It got me energized about solving mental health problems and designing practical solutions… Then we designed it. What we created might go on to actually improve the mental health of thousands. Way better than just complaining about a broken system.
Alexander Kubacki Medical Student at UVM
"Collaboration has been amazing!"
I am valued for my opinions and encouraged to propose ideas. I found out about Healthcare by Design and signed up immediately to join their design sprints. I met amazing people from different disciplines, there is a sense of unity among the participants, working together to find solutions as a group.
