Project 1A is an open-source, oral history project using human-centered design interviews to capture the unique contributions, experiences, and insights of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic from the earliest days on the frontline to the first dose of the vaccine and beyond.

Our Co-Founder Byron Crowe is a physician in internal medicine at CU Anschutz and Associate Medical Director at Solera Health. Byron shares his experiences with working in the ICU in the initial surge of March, being an advocate for COVID vaccinations, and how he foresees the twelve months ahead of us.
Amidst the physical and emotional turmoil of the pandemic, healthcare professionals lacked a space to reflect on one of the most profound experiences of their lives. We created Project 1A to capture the stories and insights of frontline healthcare workers and preserve them as a testament to the human emotions, struggles, and triumphs of the pandemic.
Project 1A stories begin with memories of the earliest days of the COVID outbreak, describe the experience of caring for patients and loved ones as case counts rose, and conclude with the flood of emotions, reflections and gratitude upon receiving the world’s first available doses of the vaccine.
Through these human-centered stories, we showcase the dedication to a higher purpose that defines the health professions and offer lessons for future generations facing such a dire challenge.
The COVID vaccine became available in December 2020, and the U.S. CDC recommended that healthcare workers be prioritized for the first doses as part of Phase 1A of the vaccine rollout. Project 1A pays homage to those in the healing professions who cared for millions of patients worldwide stricken by this terrible disease by capturing and preserving their memories.
We invite you to share your story with us as part of Project 1A. Reach out anytime and one of our interviewers will be in touch.
